Totally copying my sister
Well, I won't TOTALLY copy Kelly's note-to-self, I won't write this as a note to myself, conversationally. But that's what this is ... Wait, no, I will just copy the whole idea:
Dear Kim, order these flowers in the summer/fall and plant them, so that next spring you aren't again kicking yourself for not having ordered any super early bloomers. You need the color right now. While you wait for your beloved squill (which I can't believe I don't have a blog entry about?!?!) And don't skimp. Don't order one or two of each, because you know you really love seeing "small oceans" of flowers, and you want enough to really get a feel for them.
- Iris reticulata Harmony
- Eranthis hyemalis (Winter Aconite)
- Giant Snowdrops (these are listed as blooming even earlier than "garden snowdrops"!!)
-- adding to my list, later --
- Iris - Dwarf Rock Garden Cantab -- up to full shade? Would these do well in my "woodsy" area that gets sun in the winter & spring but shady in the summer?
- Pulmonaria longifolia Bertram Anderson - these look pretty ... and, again, up to full shade? These say available in the spring!!
- Crocus chrysanthus 'Blue Pearl'
- Chionodoxa Forbesii (Glory of the Snow) -- these are the squill copy-cats LOL
Keep looking, I'm sure there's more you'd like. Look over Kelly's list closely, to see which ones she's enjoyed early. And this year write down when yours bloom! But anyway, now you've at least got a starter list, so that you don't forget. Someone remind me this fall to do it. I'll put it on my calendar for ... July, did you say, Kelly?
