I spend all week thinking about the projects I could tackle on the weekend. All those bigger things that slip through my fingers in daily weekday busy work seem to shine with the promise of Saturday. When Saturday comes I...

Good Saturday evening Miss Kim! We just got back from a three hour walk in downtown Hopkinsville - what good exercise.

Isn't it simply amazing the wonderful things you can dream up to do. How wonderful they will be after completion? But, when it comes down to actually doing them. Yikes! LOL

Hugs to you this Saturday. Think I'm going to watch me some Waltons. Yeahhhh. Have a wonderful rest of your Saturday and Sunday, too. Hugs, Robin

oh, K, you list this whole list of things that you've done all day, and then surmise that you are unproductive. You do SO much, and you can't even see it. Get your staff to help: the Grand Lunar, Iliacat and Gark. I know you always want to be doing more more more, but sometimes that's just too much to expect. Honor yourself for the things that you are doing well, instead of beating yourself up for being self indulgent or wasting time. I thought of you and the girls knitting today when I saw some of the knitted wash cloths at a crafts sale today.

Well I agree totally with Linda. Totally! (except for the thinking of you while at a craft sale part!)

Miss you, life at our place is not nearly as exciting without you!

I don't know if my system will work for you, but here it is.

When I have a BIG PROJECT (spoken with reverb) to do, I make an index card for it. I put the name of the BIG PROJECT (reverb) on one side, and break down the job into as many little pieces as I can on the other.

So, if decluttering a bookshelf is one such project, I'll list: *clear top of shelf, dust and polish *put away items from top of shelf *clear highest shelf *dust and polish highest shelf *sort through books on highest shelf *return only those items belonging to hightest shelf etc..... and then continue that process for each of the shelves. (I use the cut and paste on the computer a lot.) I try to make none of the jobs more than 5 minutes long because that seems to be the amount of time I have at any given time to do any given task before something else comes up.

I keep my cards in my notebook and will pull them one at a time. The current card sits next to my chair in the living room, so every time I sit down, there is the card partially crossed off, with little tiny 5-minute jobs I can do. That crossing off thing seems to really motivate me because it feels like I'm making progress.

It might take a week for me to do one bookshelf, but it's one more bookshelf than I would have done if I had waited for the big chunk of time which never seems to present itself.

And why is it that Gark and Iliacat can't trim artichokes? Hmmm? BTW, all that produce stuff is why we don't have tacos here. So much fuss!

LOL, I'm exactly like Peggy (except that we eat tacos sometimes.) I like the cards in the notebook idea and already do the break into five minute jobs. But I know the cross-it-off stuff doesn't motivate you like it does me. We really need to write the Myers-Briggs guide to housecleaning someday, and figure out what will motivate each personality type to clean and do projects etc. :o) Great now I'm giving you ANOTHER big project for you to help me on... I'm sure that is no help.

But I can't tell you how many mushy vegetables I've tossed because they've sat in the fridge for days and weeks while I'm doing my other "more important" or "more urgent" five minute jobs. (or wasting time on the puter... sigh.)
